Almost every film we deliver now lives in three shapes: 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9. You can plan for that on the day, or you can pay for it in the edit.

Planning costs almost nothing. Frame the hero action in the centre third, keep text and product out of the extremes, and shoot at a resolution that leaves room to crop.

Not planning costs a reshoot. A beautifully composed wide with the subject on the left edge has no vertical crop. There is no clever fix.

Monitor with the safe areas on. It looks fussy on set and saves the film in post.
